Sad to See William Regal Go: Bryan Danielson Reflects on Final AEW Stint

No doubt about it, William Regal leaving AEW was a big loss for the company. The British wrestling veteran had been an essential part of the company’s rise, and it was a sad day when WWE cut him loose in January 2022. But, in a surprise move, Regal showed up at AEW Revolution two months later, and kickstarted the formation of the Blackpool Combat Club and the alliance of Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley.

In a recent interview with Jeff Adams of Sports Nightly, Danielson opened up about the impact of Regal’s departure, admitting that he was sad to see him go, but he was grateful that he got to spend some time with him before he left.

“When he left, it was sad for me, personally, but I was grateful that I got to spend that time with him. Some of the things that have also been really cool and really fun in this period that I’ve been in AEW are some of the surprises. Like William Regal coming to AEW and being part of the Blackpool Combat Club…There was a time period where I didn’t know if I’d ever see him again and then I got to see him every single week and we got to drive together and we’d come in and we help train people together and that sort of thing and so when he left, it was sad for me, personally, but I was grateful that I got to spend that time with him, right.”

The End of an Era: Bryan Danielson’s Full-Time Career Winds Down
It was back in September when Bryan Danielson revealed he’s got one year left of his full-time pro-wrestling career. He intends to make it count, with goals that include taking on some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Darby Allin, Nick Wayne, and one final showdown with Kenny Omega.

Ultimately, while it was a sorry day when William Regal exited AEW, it remains an incredible positive that he and Bryan Danielson got to share such an experience before his exit. With Danielson’s time in the spotlight drawing to a close, we can look forward to seeing him reach his individual and team goals before he passes the torch to the next generation of wrestlers.
