No. 45: Yonathan Daza’s Disappointing 2023 Season with the Rockies
It was a forgettable year for Yonathan Daza in 2023, a year that saw the talented outfielder’s progress halted and ultimately ended way too soon due to a shoulder injury. Daza had made some impressive strides from the previous season, ranking 8th in PuRPs the year prior, but it all went downhill from there.

The 24 Games with the Rockies
Over the course of the 24 games Daza played with the Rockies, it was over all uninspiring as he slashed .270/.304/.351 with six doubles, seven RBI, three walks, 13 strikeouts and a stolen base. Despite all of this, Colorado was still confident enough to give Daza a full-time role as the starting left fielder but then, his shoulder started acting up again.

The Early End To His 2023 Season
With the threat of his shoulder injury forcing him to the sidelines, Daza was sent down to Triple-A Albuquerque for recovery and rehabilitation. His stats with Albuquerque weren’t off-the-charts either as he was slashing .305/.350/.415 with 10 doubles, one triple, two homers, 19 RBI, nine walks, 24 strikeouts and four stolen bases (in seven attempts).

The Future of Yonathan Daza
It appears that even before should injuries, Daza was no longer trending in the favorable direction he was the season prior, suggesting that 2022 was his ceiling. Daza will now qualify for minor league free agency and it’ll be interesting to see where his future lies. Should he be able to recover and perform better than he has shown, he could easily be picked up by another team needing a solid outfielder. But with the emergence of Brenton Doyle as a potential-Gold Glove center fielder, Daza’s chances with the Rockies is looking slim.
